Tea Cups

I can't possibly look at that bug any longer so will show you this lovely tea cup quilt my dear friend Donna (no blog) gave me before she moved over to Victoria a few years ago. It has a great hanger to go with it and I can't imagine why I didn't take the photo with it. Never mind. Another time. Have lots to do today so hope you all have a relaxing Sabbath.

The Sub Tropical Drawback

Yes, the weather here in Perth is lovely and it seldom gets incredibly cold (relatively speaking of course) but the drawback is the amazingly large, creepy bugs we get. Don't even know what this one is. This is about the fourth one in 12 years (thankfully). Normally we spray the bug then set the can on top for a while until the bug stops moving (after all the screaming and running by us of course - not the bug). With this one the can actually started to tip as it fought the poison (more screaming) and we had to weight the can. This is the bug the next day (thankfully dead). I won't even mention the flying cockroaches that are this size...

Not so cheerfully :>)

Blue Square #1

3 1/2 inch square

Edit: This is a Teeny Tiny Squares block so each square is one inch so the block will be 3 inch finished - this went together very quickly and it is so small I didn't need to use any pins. Now that the test block is done I'm getting ready to chain piece the rest... Shari

Pink Blocks Quilts

I've just got home from work and found that the lovely Louise (no blog) has sent through photos of our pink block quilts that we worked on last week. You may remember I blogged about these blocks some time back. So far we have six tops and blocks for at least two more. I've got all the 'too-hard' blocks at home now. You know the ones I mean... and I'm too nice to say any more on that. The quilts will be given either directly to someone known to someone or to the oncology unit. One or two of the best constructed may end up being raffled for research. So enjoy looking and we'll catch up again soon! Hugs from Shari

PS I am on the left and Teena is on the right. She's the wonder woman who coordinated our efforts and donated a massive amount of fabric to the cause!

Teeny Tiny Squares Quilt Swap

I've had a bit of a dilemma with my Teeny Tiny Squares Quilt Swap as my recipient does not have a blog and I've been trying to decide what to do when I don't have a clue except where she lives. So I decided to go with a scrappy blue nine-patch. The individual squares will be one inch. The off-white fabric at the top is the 'background'. I will use a dark blue sashing between the nine-patches, although I haven't decided yet how wide it will be. The nine-patches will measure three inches square and I will set them six by six. The overall quilt will be hopefully less than 24 inches - which is just about the maximum size allowed for the challenge. I think the blues will work well together and am now looking forward to getting down to the business of getting it done. I seem to need to put a lot of mental time into these things before I actually cut.

Flying Geese

I found this great flying geese tutorial that requires only one sewn seam. Check it out. I found it at One Perfect Little Miracle, but it originally aired on The Quilt Show.

Very interesting!

Lovely Julia has given me this award, and while I kind of think this is a form of tagging, I like the sentiment behind it. Proximity means the property of being close together. While many of us cannot be near each other physically, we are certainly near each other in heart and mind and building friendships. I'm lucky as Julia is someone I can see and give a hug to. For most of you I have to send a virtual hug...

The meaning of this award:

This blog invests and believes in Proximity- nearness in space, time and relationships.

These blogs are exceedingly charming.

These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends .

They are not interested in prizes for self-aggrandizement!

Our hope is that when the ribbon of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated.

I'm supposed to pass this award on to fellow bloggers, to include the above text in their blog.

I am passing on this award to some old and new friends whom I've so enjoyed getting to know. Please stop by and visit their blogs.

I think I'm getting a bit carried away, but I do so enjoy sharing my days with you all, and everyone else I've not mentioned. My allotted computer time is nearly finished so must away to other tasks. I wish you all a very restful/productive weekend.

I wasn't, but Jane over at laniejane is. She's having a giveaway and the prize is a bundle of the most delicious fabrics of the Andalucia range plus an elegant pendant. Be quick as entries close next Wednesday. In addition to her giveaway, Jane is discounting purchases of this range from her shop by 20%!

I'm so tempted but my stash is so big,
but it would be nice to have something more modern and fresh,
but my stash is so big,
Can you resist?

What's on my Sidebar?

I've made a couple of additions to my sidebar recently. Let's see what they are...

This chirpy fellow is from Bush Baby Jag: Secret Easter Swap. The closing date for this swap is Friday the 13th of February. Pop over and leave an email if you are interested.

Bunny Hill Designs is hosting a free Block of the Month that is just too cute. Baskets feature each month. The first has a snowman in a basket that is adorable.

Ellen is hosting a free Block of the Month with designs that can either be stitched or appliqued. I fell in love with the little snowman that is the first one.

Capricorn Quilts is hosting a free Block of the Month
called Once Upon A Time.
The first month is Rapunzel.

I've also decided to add the link to Geninne's Art Blog. She's an amazing artist who lives in Mexico City. Her work so totally appeals to me...

And of course there is the Teeny Tiny Squares Quilt Swap, The Black and White Quilt Challenge Project, and the Red Delicious BOM (which is due to be updated on the 15th!).

What do you have on your sidebar?

What's for Tea?

After a busy day sewing pink quilt blocks together,
what's a girl to do to feed her family?
Make mini meatloaves of course...

Each meatloaf is two servings...

I baked them for 35 minutes at 180C (350F)

I took them from their mini pans with a mini spatula...

A simple meal...

Home Again

We had a fabulous trip to Albany and returned to the City on a really hot day! It was lovely and cool down south. I feel like I've been gone a lot longer than one week! It was a wonderful time away with friends.

A big thank you for all your birthday wishes... it was so nice to hear all your little stories. I'm sure you are all anxious to hear who won my little giveaway. The winner is Purple and Paisley! This is really funny as Terri's birthday is the same day as mine! Congratulations!

I decided to draw a second prize and the winner is Christine! Congratulations! Your mystery prize will come along shortly!!

I'm still recovering from my time away and feel a little brain dead so not much in the way of a post for today. I will leave you with some photos though... sorry, blogger is not doing photos at the moment. Will try again later.

Now must try to catch up with all your doings!

Happy Birthday to Me

Happy Birthday to me...

I'm off to Albany...

So while I'm awa-ay...

I'll have a giveaway...

This is me at Sweet 16 within a few days of meeting my husband. This is his Sandman. Did every parent of a teenage daughter just have a heart attack? He was a perfect gentleman, almost. lol

My birthday is on Wednesday, 7 January and as I am away from the 3rd to the 10th I'll be off-line for the whole week. Not sure if we'll be able to get any access (or even want to) so I decided to have a quiet little giveaway.

To enter just leave a comment on this post sometime from the 3rd of January to 6:00pm the 10th of January (my time). To be eligible you must tell me a memorable birthday moment, i.e. a special gift, an event, a disaster, a cake, you forgot your own birthday (hey - that's happened to me!) The winner will receive this book, Victory Quilts by Eleanor Burns. If I find something cool on my trip I might throw that in as well. Who knows?

I took the photo of this book in Mr Fixit's workshop. The light was great. He has a round Ott-Lite with a magnifying glass in the middle which is also great for taking splinters out of little feet...

I'll be thinking of you all and hope you all have a boring week with lots of time for sewing and laughing! And please go and say Happy Birthday to Terri over at Purple and Paisley. She and I were born on the exact same day, but we're not saying how old we are...
