Wonderland Garden - I Won!

Jacquie at Tallgrass Prairie Studio made this gorgeous quilt and donated it to her Mum's (a.k.a. Mom) church for a fundraising raffle. I bought some tickets and amazingly I won! In a few short weeks this wonderful quilt will land on my doorstep! How exciting is that! Can hardly wait...
Jacquie's Mum did the redwork blocks and Jackie of Canton Village Quilt Works quilted it. This is such a vibrant quilt and I can't wait to touch it! Whoo Hoo!
Thanks so much Jacquie! I hope your Mum's church can do great things with the money raised!
Also - be sure and visit Jacquie and congratulate her on her first quilt exhibition. Hopefully we will see some photos soon! Congratulations Jacquie! I love your work!
Perth is experiencing wild wet and windy weather - quite exciting and cold.... will take the number 3 daughter to the doctor today as her cold is lingering longer than necessary... hope to get a little sewing done - going to ignore the housework - LOL
PS I took the photos off Jacquie's blog - you really must visit her!

I impulsively opened a Facebook account yesterday. What was I thinking! I can barely keep up with my blog! Many of you would have received some sort of email asking to be friends or to join Facebook (apologies - I really didn't know what I was doing!) So please don't think I expect you to join Facebook or anything! I'll see how I go for a little while with both - but if it gets too hard (i.e. time consuming) Facebook will have to go...

A wild storm front is passing through Perth - squally winds and rain! Hope you have sunshine where you are!

Cheers - Shari

Mugz on Monday

I'm sure I still have mugs you've not seen, but this came into my life this week from a friend. These are definitely my kind of mugs! And here is a bit of the selvedge for those who are interested...

I'm still really busy but popping in from time to time. Thankfully the boss is back next week so the overtime should cease... at least everything is going ok! Really can't complain - I still have a job and everything I need with no real worries - hope all is well with your world!

Hugs - Shari

9 Patch Variation by Barb

Hi Everyone

I'm stealing a few minutes before I go to work to catch up with a few blogs. And I'm also stealing a photo from Barb's blog to show you this amazing thing she did with little scrappy nine patches. It's fantastic. I just love it. Pop over and check out her mini-tutorial. Barb makes amazing quilts. I really admire her and how much she gets done - and I'm so impressed with her creativity!
Cheers - Shari
PS It's raining today! Whoo-Hoo!!!

I'm Still Here!

I know I've been missing in action but aside from working at my day job I've been flat-tack working on compiling a dvd from photos from the quilt show for our association members (and it is members only - sorry ladies). However, I will share this photo with you before I retire for the night.

This quilt is made by Jan Rowe and it is called
"Nature's Beauty: Explore or Exploit?"
This quilt won Runner-Up Best of Show.

Hope all is well in your world. Mine won't settle for a while (the boss is away and I'm the go-to girl). And it is the cough and cold season (and swine flu)...

The mug on the left belongs to my #3 daughter.
I put that one in to show scale for my over-sized
tea cup on the right.

My Girls

These are my gorgeous girls.
(I really must get a new photo of them.)

The one on the left is Jessica (#1) and she has just moved out of home again after moving home only a couple of months ago. I think I saw her more when she lived away then at home... she's very artistic and has a lot of interests. She has half a uni degree in psychology, town planning, human resources and with a certificate for social services thrown in. I tell her to pick one and finish it. She's currently studying for a Cisco exam (information technology-ish). And I think there's a rally car in there somewhere as well... Hard to keep up with this dynamo...

The one in the middle is Hannah (#3). She just spent the night with her sister Corbie (#2). She came home after lunch and went straight to bed. The note on her door said " Sleeping - Do Not Disturb (unless there is steak for dinner)". [no steak and she is sleeping as I type...] It would appear that apprenticeships (signwriting) are pretty scarce in these economic times so she is thinking about a new course of study - something IT or maybe automotive... she said she doesn't want a 'career' in one thing but wants to do lots of things.

Corbie (on the right of course) sent me a text message yesterday that said "If I buy new glasses how much does the bank of mom cover?" (The answer is half.) She's not interested in a career either. She has a clerical job in the city that covers her rent and her expenses and leaves her time to party and socialise. But don't for a minute think she's irresponsible. She works hard and does her job well and I am really proud of how she takes care of herself and her home, her car, her friends and her little sister.

I love being mum a.k.a. mom to these fabulous young women. They are smart and funny and kind and wicked and they stand up for themselves and they respect me. If they are an example of their generation then the world is indeed becoming a better place.

So how is your family?

Cheers - Shari

If you've read this far then leave a comment and I'll pick someone for a little quiet giveaway (closes midnight Monday local time).

Mugz on Monday - a little late. My daughter's latest acquisition. It's more of a soup bowl really. Holden is a car company - a subsidiary of GM actually and excluded from the restructuring in the US.

Under the Rainbow - and a giveaway

I just took this photo looking out my front door. The rainbow actually arcs the whole sky - but of course I don't have a panorama camera. The sky is black to the left of the photo and by the time I've come in and begun this post, the rain is here - complete with thunder. Today's forecast is rain and thunderstorms with lengthy fine periods and a high of 20C. And after the last three very busy days, perfect for staying home and working on paperwork and quilting...

This is the sky a few minutes later. It's actually raining in this photo. (I'm out the back under the patio).

The rain is really bucketing down now. This is great!

Look at these fat raindrops!

Our storm water goes into a water catchment lake around the corner. This is the same lake that the water helicopters use to fill up in to fight local bushfires. Thank the Lord it's raining!

Cheers - Shari

PS - Emily at Ravenhill is having a giveaway! Pop over for a look. She has a great blog - and makes the cutest Matroyshka dolls!
